Chi Eng
PrincipalChi Eng is a transactional and litigation counsel with a concentration in intellectual property law.
He provides intellectual property and general counsel services including patent portfolio management, prosecution of patent applications, conduct post-grant inter partes review proceedings before the US Patent & Trademark Office, and commercial and patent litigation counsel. He assisted clients in wide-ranging engineering fields such as software, telecommunications, e-commerce systems, medical device technology, digital rights protection, and mobile device applications.
Chi previously served as the General Counsel of a company from startup to a public company, managing various fund raising rounds and eventually an Initial Public Offering and negotiating and settling various shareholder lawsuits. As the General Counsel, he successfully defended the Company from actual and threatened patent infringement suits, and enforced the Company’s patents against actual and potential infringers. In collaboration with outside counsel, he successfully enforced company’s core patents against competitors and defended the company from infringement actions. He also established and managed a corporate invention program, and prosecuted U.S. and foreign patent protection for the company’s innovations including its core communications trading exchange and VoIP patents.
Chi was an associate at a boutique intellectual property law firm in New York City, which merged with Cozen O’Connor, an international law firm. He obtained patents for corporate clients such as Nokia and Alcatel-Lucent as well as individual inventors. His contributions also included defending clients in patent and copyright infringement lawsuits.
Prior to attending Fordham Law School, Chi was a Member of Technical Staff at AT&T Bell Labs (now Lucent-Alcatel) where he worked as a development engineer providing analytical design support and system integration testing for communications systems.
He is an inventor and has received US Patent Nos. 9,256,905; 8,499,148; 7,945,502; and 6,731,729.
Chi graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo with a B.S.M.E (summa cum laude) in 1981 and a M.S. in 1983. He received his J.D. from Fordham Law School Law in 1993.
